Some thrifting tips from Painfully Hip: http://www.painfullyhip.com/2009/01/top-secret-thrifting-tips-you-may-or-may-not-already-know-plus-one-im-sure-you-dont/
I agree with all of these tips! My number one piece of advice would be to check when your Salvation Army has half price days (mine is Wednesday) and during the day, preferably pretty early. I never go into a thrift trip with preconceptions about what I will find, I just hope and pray to the thrifting Gods that I find something good!
Happy thrifting!

I am freaking addicted to lookbook. There are so many amazing stylish people who post beautiful pictures of their beautiful selves, and the best part is they are from all over the world! It's like an even more awesome version of wardrobe remix. Seriously, check out some of these stylish ladies!
I want that girls hair. Enough said. Sadly, I am a brunette and will never have fabulously stunning platinum hair.
This is unrelated to fashion, but I am seriously going to go broke on buying CDs this year. The Decemberists, Third Eye Blind, Ben Kweller, Ben Lee, Left-Eye and others are all releasing CDs within the next few months. Mmmmm, Yes. Broke!

Oh, Canada...
Sometimes, when I'm driving, my mind wanders (I probably should not be admitting this). Specifically when certain songs come on, my mind seems to daydream. The other day, Five Iron Frenzy's "Oh Canada" came on my ipod, and it made me wonder... why does everyone hate Canada? I mean, at least here in America, Canada is like the punchline of every joke.
As I was thinking, this made no sense to me. They have a beautiful country with a beautiful landscape. They have a national healthcare system. For those of you guys that don't know what that means, when you go to the hospital, they fix you up, and send you home. There are no insurance forms to fill out. If you can't pay they don't tell you 'sorry sir, but you're screwed'. In America we just send those people who can't afford healthcare home, even if that means death. So far Canada 1, US 0.
Then I thought about their civil rights. Canada allows gay marriage. In America we preach seperation of church and state, but unfortunately fail to practice it. If we did practice it, there would be no reason to disallow gay marriage. What somebody else does in the bedroom doesn't hurt me, and everyone deserves the same rights to live a happy life and hopefully not die alone. Again, this just adds to Canada's awesomeness.
Sure it's cold, but that's ok, it helps them be awesome at hockey. They have the more awesome side of the Niagra Falls. They have Christmas trees all over their country
The drinking age in Canada is lower in most provinces then it is in the US. They don't fight pointless wars. In fact, they don't fight anybody. They just sit in their country and enjoy their ability to marry the same sex and go to the doctor when they get sick, and not lose their house over it. Sounds like a pretty sweet life for a liberal to me!

The Revolution Will Be Televised.
There are few days where you feel trully high. I'm not talking about drugs, I'm talking about the feeling you get when the most amazing thing has happened and nobody can get you down. There are also few days in history where you want to be able to say "I was there when...". Yesterday was both kinds of days for me.
I never thought in my life I would see a minority president. Or a woman president. I still might not see the latter, but thats another blog. It's sad that in America everyone is supposed to be able to keep a piece of that dream, that someday they too can become leader of our amazing nation. However, we have this dirty little secret that even our school children know... unless you are old, white, and rich... you are not going to be president. So basically in school when you are taught you can be anything, the invisible part of that sentence that is the pink elephant in the room is... you can be anything but president.
Well, yesterday that all changed. Even though this is so important for my generation (I am a mere twenty years old but I feel ancient) imagine that everyone born after January 20, 2009 will not know the same America I have known in my life. They will know a hopeful America, a bright America... an America where everyone, even the son of an immigrant, has the chance to become our President. If Obama does nothing else (I have great faith in him and believe he will do many things) he has lit a spark under the youth of our nation... children that never thought they could be anything will now be able to say "I can." Immigrants and foreign countries can once again look at our country in respect rather then dissapointment. We can all be a nation and try to forget and move on from the last eight years.
I honestly think the election night was the most amazing day of history that I have ever witnessed, and yesterday was the second most amazing day. To see all those people... black, white and everything in between crammed to see history being made, I can't put that feeling into words. The african americans that stood in the crowd weeping because their parents were refused service at a lunch counter but now their children are alive to see the first african american president... what an amazing gift to everyone. How amazing that Obama even recognized Muslim nations in his speech (and atheists too! WOOO!). It shows that he really wants everyone to get together and work for a greater cause, no matter your belief system.
Ok, so I know I have talked your ear off but I couldn't let this day go by without recognition. I hope those that aren't happy about the Obama inauguration, whether its for political reasons or racial reasons, change your mind (I especially hope that if its for racial reasons). I hope that you get a little slice of the hope and wonder that all the rest of us do.

The Commitments
I'm sitting here on a Saturday night watching some random movie on MyTV Tampa Bay called The Commitments. It's actually pretty hilarious... Basic premise is a bunch of unemployed irish non musicians form to create a soul band and they spend the whole movie singing such songs as "In The Midnight Hour" and "Mustang Sally". It's not oscar worthy but not a bad way to spend a Saturday night. As in, I could think of worse. Like getting teeth pulled or mauled by a gator...
Anyway, right now they are singing "Try A Little Tenderness" which inspired me to write this blog. It was the first song I ever remember hearing, and the song me and my younger sisters called "Gotcha Gotcha" (because in the live version Otis goes into this incoherant chorus with lots of babbling, lol. amazing nonetheless.) When we'd be in the car with my dad we'd always beg for him to play "gotcha gotcha". Most of the time he would. It just reminded me of that happy time!
Another hilarious song from some Thanksgiving long past is Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Diner Massacre". Highly reccomend it if you like protest songs or like basically anything that includes but not limited to: garbage dumps, hippies, mother rapers, diners, police officers with too much time on their hands, thanksgiving dinners that cant be beat, guys that are trying to dodge the draft by screaming "kill" but instead get drafted, litterbugs, ect.
And in the end, good times were had by all!!

My inspiration
When I moved to Florida a year ago, I was very bored. I didn't have a license, I didn't have any friends, and worst of all, I didn't have cable. So I found myself passing the time by reading fashion blogs online, trying to pass the time. It was very strange because up until after I graduated high school, I really had no style. I was just your average jeans and t-shirt/tank top kind of gal. I rarely dressed up and if I did it was usually at work so it was nothing special. Once I was out of high school, I realized I didn't care what anyone thought of me any more... I no longer had these group of people that would see me everyday that even though I denied it, tried to impress. I started dressing the way I wanted to dress, a little at a time. Then I started getting into vintage which sparked my interest in reading fashion blogs. When I moved to Florida, all my wardrobe inhibitions went out the window. If I want to wear a fancy dress to school, then I do it. No matter how overdressed I look. I attribute my new found wardrobical freedom to a few ladies whose blogs I faithfully read, and wanted to share with anyone who might be reading this!
Galadarling She is amazing in every way possible. She teaches gals (and guys too!) to truly embrace themselves as they are and everything they can be. She wears fabulous clothing, lives in fabulous places and just has an all around fabulous aura. Her "things i love thursday" segment is a true testement to positivity. I strive to be more like her everyday... not in a superficial way but in the way to truly live to be my best self, reguardless of what other people think.

Painfullyhip is a blog started by two lovely ladies named Eve & Amber which showcases the best mix of current and vintage fashions. The posts in their blog show amazing ladies who use thrifting and vintage fashion to create green (enviro-friendly) and beautiful wardrobes on a small budget. My favourite segment of theirs is "Thrift Star Of The Day" which uses wardrobe remix to find stylishly dressed ladies all over the world who use thrifting to create signature looks.

The Fashion-Y Blog was started by a girl named Kori after she became sick and was forced to spend many of her days at home. It's a mixture of outfit posts, designer talk, and runway beauties. I found this blog when I was looking up pixie cuts, and her post on this inspired me to cut off all my hair. I love how this blog encompasses all things fashion... Kori constantly keeps me updated on all the designers creating affordable lines at places such a Target, making luxury fashion accessable to everyone.
I could go on for days describing the blogs I love, but that would bore you. Instead, here are some honorable mentions:

skin cleaning morning!
Today is such a bizarre day. It was gross out this morning, I mean really foggy and icky and basically very Florida like. I finally took down the Christmas lights and it was so windy I thought that I was going to fly away ala The Wizard Of Oz… or the very least fall off the ladder and suffer a very very painful injury which would result me going to the emergency room (when my aunt actually found me at 7 o’clock tonight) but being out of luck since I don’t have insurance (Ok, getting off topic here…). Anyways, I come back inside and I swear the sky just opened up and it poureeddddd. And now it is over. It’s ok I guess, we can use the rain. I just hate it, it makes me unmotivated!
Anyway onto more interesting manners. Today I finally tried using plain white sugar as an exfoliate which is supposed to be the best natural exfoliate you can use. My skin really isn’t that bad, it’s mostly the constant redness that is annoying, but this is easily fixed with a little green cover-up from everyday minerals:

It works amazing, and it's eight dollars for a huge compact of it! Plus, since it's mineral, it lasts forever. I'm still on my free sample which looks like this little thing but I swear it's like the days worth of oil that lasted eight days. It's seriously worth it to get the combination package on everydayminerals. I think it's about thirty dollars and you get to pick 6 things I think, seriously so worth it.
Anyway, after spending 10 minutes trying to get the sugar off my face, I used vinegar as a toner which is also supposed to be amazing. You are really supposed to use apple cider vinegar, but we only had plain white vinegar so I substituted. Well, it worked amazingly well! It didn’t help too much with the redness but all of the icky dead skin is gone off my face and it feels so smooth from the vinegar! I must warn you though, the vinegar burns if you have any spots on your face (which I did)! But the results are well worth it. The best part about this is it’s basically free! Pretty much everyone has sugar and vinegar in their house. If you don’t, it’s a cheap investment.
I’ve been pretty neglectful with this blog, I don’t know why. I guess I just haven’t been in a writing mood, but hopefully that will change in the new year :)
